for the exterior and courtyard space of the ICW in the beginning of September. We kicked off the
project by doing an in-depth analysis of the site. This included research into the history of South Boston
with focus on immigration, politics, and construction.
Project Description and Scope
Thanks to this research we have an improved
understanding of South Boston and area around the site.At the site itself we looked at the businesses and houses nearby and its visibility and accessibility
from roads and public transportation. While the site is industrial, there are houses and apartments
directly across the street and further down. We also wanted to see what other gyms had for an
entrance. We looked at the entrances and exteriors of other gyms, both locally and within the city.Currently, we have shifted focus to the design proposed for the interior of the gym. We want
the design of the outside courtyard to not only reflect the inside, but to also be a fitting and positive
addition to the neighborhood. Now that the as-built elevations of the gym are drawn, we can begin the
design. We are now working together on the scaled model of the gym for the upcoming fundraiser. It is
going to be large detailed model and should give everyone a clear idea of what the ICW gym is going to
look like. |
