About: Archventures is collaborating with Hacin Associates and students from the Boston Architectural College to create a new home for Innercity Weightlifting in South Boston. The ICW mission is, “to reduce violence and promote professional, personal and academic achievement among urban youth”. Through the sport of Olympic Lifting, the organization serves young people on a direct path to gang involvement including both former and active gang members and young victims of domestic abuse. The ICW headquarters will house and after school tutoring and mentor program, a nutrition center, and will cater to private clients working with ICW trainers.Project Description: Archventures will focus on the exterior of the facility’s entrance and courtyard space. Fellows will design and construct a courtyard entry that not only reflects the mission and vision of ICW, but also enhances the streetscape and reflects its urban context.
Status: Design and funding in progress. Construction is planned to begin in Spring 2012.
Collaborative Partners: Hacin Associates, Boston Architectural College Gateway Program
